Healthy Treat Idea - Banana Pops•

Hello everyone, its been a while since I have been shared any recipes on here! What a busy year it has been so far and how fast has this summer flown by? I am finally sitting down to write this post, I have meant to share this with you at the beginning of the summer but the children broke up from school and then life just went a bit bonkers with four extras to entertain and hang out with!
We made these yummy pops several times this summer and it certainly was a big hit in our household. They are really easy to make and are super tasty; the banana is amazing frozen. If your kids are anything like mine you can’t go wrong with any food on a stick. What a novelty it seems to be - I think if I put a big bunch of kale on a stick they would like it!!!!
These yummy pops are even good without the chocolate for little toddlers who are teething. My one year old nephew visited recently and was teething really badly poor little chap, luckily we were at the first stage of the recipe when the banana was just freezing and the chocolate hadn’t gone on. It really was soothing for his gums and a nice tasty snack for him!
So, onto to the recipe. If you want to make a slightly healthier version then make with raw chocolate.
BANANA POPS (MAKES 8 POPS)
- 4 bananas (not too ripe)
- We used a mixture of dark and milk chocolate - 100g dark 200g milk
- option - peanut butter 2tbsp melted.
- freeze dried strawberries/raspberries
- pistachio nuts
- white chocolate drops
- anything goes really!
- Paper straws for sticks - cut in half
Cut the bananas in half and place the straw carefully in the end. If using peanut butter, melt slightly in a pan over a low heat. Once the peanut butter is a little more runny take a pastry brush and brush over the banana.
Whether with peanut butter or not, at this stage arrange on a baking tray with parchment paper and place in the freezer. The bananas will take a few hours to freeze or freeze overnight.
When the bananas are frozen melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of water on a low heat.
Once melted pour the chocolate into a cup or jug, tall enough to be able to dip your banana in and coat with the chocolate (this is the best bit - the children will love doing this). Dip your banana into the cup and cover the banana.
We arranged our toppings on small plates and then dip the end of the banana into your preferred topping and coat.
They cool really quickly so you can either eat straight away or place back in the freezer. Delicious either way.
